Oregon State Blown Out in Civil War: Trent Bray’s Seat Is Scorching

Oregon State faced a crushing defeat against Oregon, losing 41–7, highlighting the significant gap between the teams. The Beavers struggled offensively and defensively, with quarterback Maalik Murphy performing poorly. Coach Trent Bray’s future is in question as the team aims to rebound against unbeaten Houston. Time is running out for improvements.

The Civil War rivalry ended in disaster for Oregon State, as the Beavers were dismantled 41–7 by Oregon. Dan Lanning’s Ducks imposed their will from start to finish, leaving little doubt about the gap between the programs right now. For head coach Trent Bray, the pressure has never been higher.

Oregon Dominates Every Phase

From the opening drive, Oregon controlled the game. Running back Jaden LiMar broke off a huge gain on the first snap, setting the tone for an offense that never looked back. Quarterback Dante Moore carved up Oregon State’s secondary with pinpoint accuracy, finishing with 305 passing yards and four touchdowns. Add in 280 rushing yards from the Ducks, and the Beavers had no answers.

Oregon State’s defense showed flashes of life early, forcing a turnover on downs and a punt in the first half, but those moments faded quickly under the relentless Oregon attack.

Offensive Collapse for the Beavers

If the defense struggled, the offense was even worse. Quarterback Maalik Murphy delivered the worst game of his college career — completing just 5 of 18 passes for 68 yards. His misfires stalled any chance of building momentum.

The lone bright spot came on the second drive when running back Anthony Hankerson fought into the end zone. Outside of that sequence, the Beavers’ ground game was nonexistent, totaling just 67 rushing yards on 26 attempts.

Key stat: Oregon State averaged only 2.6 yards per carry, compared to Oregon’s dominant 280-yard rushing day.

Small Positives Amid the Blowout

While the scoreboard was lopsided, there were a few positives:

  • Limited penalties: Just two flags all game, both on the touchdown drive.
  • Top performers: Defensive lineman Takari Hickle recorded the Ducks’ first sack allowed all season, while defensive back Zakaih Saez disrupted a key screen pass. On offense, receiver Taz Reddicks consistently found openings, though Murphy failed to connect on several chances.

Special teams, however, remained a concern. Shaky long snapping nearly led to blocked punts, a recurring issue that must be addressed.

Is It Time to Move On From Trent Bray?

The Beavers are now 0–4 under Trent Bray this season and 5–11 overall in his short head coaching career. With UCLA, Virginia Tech, and potentially other high-profile programs preparing for coaching searches, Oregon State risks being left behind if they don’t act soon.

The reality: If Oregon State waits, the pool of available candidates will shrink. As painful as it sounds, the Beavers may need to pull the plug on Bray now to get ahead of the market.

What’s Next for Oregon State?

Oregon State hosts unbeaten Houston this Friday in Corvallis. The Cougars, led by quarterback Conner Weigman, will present another brutal test. A loss would likely confirm that 2025 is a lost season — and could seal Bray’s fate.

On top of that, the rivalry itself is changing. The Civil War, played every year since 1945, will not be on the schedule in 2026 as Oregon moves into the Big Ten. The game will return in 2027, but for now, this was the end of a historic streak.

Final Take

Oregon State fans are left with more questions than answers. The Beavers looked lifeless on offense, overmatched on defense, and stuck in neutral under Trent Bray. Unless something changes immediately, Oregon State risks not only wasting this season but also falling further behind in the new era of college football.
